FOLIGNO ALSO CALLED FULGINIA

Founded by the ancient Umbrians probably in the 10th century BC under the name of Fulginia, in 258 BC it became a municipality of the Roman Empire.

Conquered by the Goths around the end of the 5th century AD, it was then subjugated by the Lombards who annexed it to the powerful Duchy of Spoleto.

It was annexed in 1198 to the Papal State and in 1255, when the municipal period began, the city passed into the hands of the powerful Trinci family of Lombard origin. Under the rule of the Trinci family, the city experienced a large economic and artistic development, remaining under the Papal State until the unification of Italy.

History and nature in this area create a complementary relationship that will leave the visitor speechless, discovering corners of the historic center and places of considerable naturalistic interest.
